Our Aircraft

Our aircraft includes the BK117 C1, which is based in Louisville.

The BK-117-C1 is a twin jet engine helicopter that has the power and equipment to transport two critically injured or ill patients (adult and/or pediatric). The aircraft is large enough to allow full access to both patients and carries invasive monitoring equipment. The BK-117 can be quickly set up to carry an intra-aortic balloon pump.

Because of special navigational instruments, the BK-117 can fly in inclement weather when many other aircraft cannot. The BK-117's single-pilot IFR system is complemented by the latest avionics to reduce pilot work load.

Because of its rugged construction, large rear clamshell doors and large cabin volume, the BK-117 is well-suited for EMS tasks. Its responsive advanced hingeless rotor system, excellent visibility, and compact external dimensions enable the BK-117 to fly in and out of tight landing zones where other medium twin engine helicopters have difficulty.

Delivered brand new to STATCARE in 2003, this helicopter also incorporates satellite tracking so that our communications center can follow its progress throughout each flight.
